Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Clarify client brief or contract requirements
  • Clarify product performance objectives and specifications with client
  • Determine and research planning and design parameters of the brief or contract
  • Determine WHS, regulatory, sustainability and environmental issues relevant to the proposed manufacturing process
  • Established required technical and professional assistance based on project scope
  • Confirm client’s production system capability and provide initial advice on feasibility
  • Discuss ‘time to market’ issues with the client and establish timelines
  • Decide, in conjunction with client, whether the proposed project should fit with an existing production system or a new or redesigned process to be established for the product
  • Prepare a product development flow chart that provides sufficient information to guide the planning and design process

Element: Develop manufacturing process design options and prepare concept proposals
  • Identify and analyse relevant production systems
  • Generate and validate manufacturing process design solutions using current design methodologies and automated design tools
  • Evaluate and rank options against client criteria for quality, cost, and application of automation, maintainability and regulatory requirements
  • Determine social and sustainability implications of solutions
  • Document and present concept proposals to client
  • Provide feedback on product manufacturability
  • Evaluate concept proposals with client and select preferred process

Element: Design manufacturing process
  • Determine manufacturing process control, maintenance management, human resources and continuous improvement systems implications for final design
  • Finalise manufacturing process design, including material and product flow, logistics, transfers, new or modified facilities, services, plant and tooling layout
  • Ensure preparation of all required documentation, drawings, specifications and instructions
  • Consult with client and stakeholders to obtain sign-off on design.
  • Monitor installation and commissioning of manufacturing process with stakeholders and make any necessary adjustments to design

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
